York Engineers Triangle, York

Network Rail invested in redeveloping an historic site known as York Engineers’ Triangle, located south of the city of York, bordered by two existing train lines and known for its heritage railway buildings, which were abandoned in the 1960’s and subsequently demolished, lying derelict ever since.

The purpose of the project was to transform the site into two centres, a Route Operating Centre (ROC) and a Workforce Development Centre (WDC).  The ROC is the largest of 14 proposed centres in the country, controlling critical signalling and rail operations on the East Coast Main Line from London Kings Cross to the Scottish Borders. The WDC is a state of the art training facility for up to 200 delegates at any one time.

The site transformation of the derelict site was undertaken by BAM Construction who appointed GBE Converge to carry out the design, supply, installation and commissioning of all fire, security, CCTV, PA and disabled alarms.
