Key tasks & Experience

Key Responsibility: To coordinate and management small works and aftersales works from first fix on site through to successful commissioning and handover, including client training. To achieve all client expectations and to adhere to statutory regulations at all times.

Provide site-based support for all small works and aftersales works including coordination of sub-contractors to ensure all works are completed on time and to specification.

To provide assistance to the service team as and when necessary.

  • Key Tasks:
    To conduct site surveys and to prepare parts list for quotation purposes; giving due consideration to all applicable security and fire risk factors.
  • To assist in the production of risk assessments and method statements.
  • To co-ordinate installation activities to ensure that they are carried out in a controlled manner and in accordance with the Company’s documented procedures and processes plus any statutory and regulatory requirements that may apply.
  • To supervise and direct sub-contract labour in the installation of projects.
  • To verify that all system design specifications are compatible with the requirements of all applicable technical and regulatory standards (i.e. EN, BS, HTM) and BAFE/NSI/BRE Codes of Practice.
  • To actively monitor and manage project progress.
  • To commission and handover projects to the client.
  • To ensure adherence to all Company policies – including those for quality, health & safety and the management of false alarms.
  • To provide reports as appropriate.
  • To assist in the production of O&M documentation and suitable amended as-fitted drawings within agreed time scales at the completion of each project.
  • To carry out any other job specific duties as deemed appropriate by the service manager and senior management team.
  • Provide technical support for the service team, including site attendance if necessary.
  • To take an active role within the continuous improvement of Company systems.Role Specific Duties: Develop the role of Small Works project engineer to include:
  •  Continual assessment of one’s system knowledge base to identify improvements required, either by in-house or external training.
  • Continually assess one’s effectiveness within the role and discuss any enhancements to the role that would make your contribution more effective.
  • Managing own day to day diary to use time effectively.
  • Verifying that installed systems meet the requirements of the relevant standards.
  • Collating and recording all system information for inclusion is O&M submission such as loop loadings, as-wiring information, battery calcs, system schedules, dB levels, device ID’s etc.
  • Managing sub-contractor labour at site level to ensure installations are completed to the agreed programme of works.
  • Coordinate the ordering of equipment and site stock levels to ensure installations are carried out in a timely fashion.
  • To attend weekly M&E meetings (if applicable) and report back detailing all necessary information relevant to the installation.
  • To develop specific Method Statements and Risk Assessments where required.
  • Carry out weekly podium inspections (record forms to be issued to PM and hard copies held in site H&S file).
  • Produce weekly progress reports (room-by-room basis. Issued to PM electronically and hard copy held in site progress file)
  • To liaise with other site trades in order to push the project forward.
    Professional Experience:
  • To have experience in working on fire detection, access control, CCTV and intruder alarm systems to the applicable British and European Standards and knowledge also of all relevant BAFE/NSI codes of practice.
  • To be conversant with the products and systems within the Company’s core systems range and to be fully aware of any significant limitations inherent in such products and systems.
  • To be conversant with and up to date in respect of new technologies and regulatory standards that are relevant to the installation and commissioning process.
  • To be conversant with specific installation requirements and be able to provide clear and unambiguous information to the client and to the installing engineer.Personal Skills:
  • To have the ability to plan and monitor work to tight time scales and deadlines.
  • To have the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • To have good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, as-fitted detail and handover certification.
  • To have the ability to work creatively and innovatively dealing with core issues with clients.
  • To have the ability to form good working relationships with colleagues, clients and outside bodies.
  • To be able to influence, persuade and negotiate effectively with all levels of person.
  • To have the ability to understand and disseminate specifications and technical drawings.
  • To be able to display initiative and to have strong attention to detail.

  • To be computer literate and proficient in all core Microsoft Office
