Project Consultants form part of the Technology division whose mission is to support and enhance GBE Converge customers’ infrastructures so that they can meet their business objectives.

A Project Consultant works in partnership with internal and external customers to successfully deliver Projects. They work closely with internal divisions to ensure that Projects are delivered according to expected scope, delivered within time constraints and budget and successfully supported thereafter.

Consultants will assist the Sales division in providing strategic guidance to customers in respect of any technology and infrastructure enhancements, as well as up and coming technology requirements.

 

Key tasks & Experience

Duties and responsibilities

  • Deliver minor and major projects according to project deliverables as outlined by Technology Operations Manager and Sales division
  • Consult with the projects client representative whilst you are assigned to a project to see if any further opportunities can be provided to them and our sales division whilst working on the project.
  • Responsible for post-project handover and continual service improvement sessions for supporting divisions (i.e. Senior Management, Service Desk, Sales, Networking)
  • Provide daily progress project update to customers and peers (Service Desk, Senior Management, Project Co-Ordinator)
  • Update and complete project documentation and knowledgebase to enable effective handover to Service Desk or customer IT teams – within 24 hours for minor projects, within 48 hours for major projects
  • Assist with project related incident, problem and change management issues highlighted by the Service Desk
  • Provide support to peers with technical problem solving as and when required (i.e. Service Desk, Onsite Services Team, Sales, and Networking divisions)
  • Assist Sales division with identifying existing and emerging technologies related to projects by regularly attending scope of work meetings
  • Assist Sales Division on customer infrastructures highlighting areas for improvement
  • Ensure time recording for project work is 100% accurate and complete
  • Research and be aware of new and emerging technologies and how this can enhance customer infrastructures
  • Be proactive in own career and technology knowledge
  • On occasion stand in for the Technology Operations Manager with respect to customer or internal meetings
  • Maintain the GBE Converge IT network, ensuring that any item of any risk is highlighted or removed from the infrastructure
  • Provide excellent and effective customer service always
  • Correctly log and update service and project tickets
  • Ensure paperwork related to project delivery is completed accurately and within a reasonable timeframe
  • Be aware of commercial impact of projects and actively seek to minimize risk to successful project delivery
  • Any other duties specified by your line manager

Skills and Experience

  • Will have over 3 years’ or more experience working in an IT support environment covering many different technical areas
  • Experience with working on IT infrastructure projects where responsible for planning, installation and documentation
    • English Language (written and verbal) to a GCSE level or equivalent. o Should be able to demonstrate good communication skills, written, over the phone and face to face
    • Have at least 1 formal IT qualification preferred higher education or above and / or suitable IT qualification in a recognised area i.e. Cisco CCNA, MSCA, MSCE, etc…
  • Will have good customer service skills and have experience in providing customer service
  • Will have experience in troubleshooting infrastructure environments
  • Will have a willingness to learn new skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable working within a team or on own initiative
  • Will have a full UK driving license
  • Provide excellent documentation skills

Technical Knowledge and Experience

  • Excellent working knowledge of windows server 2003/2008/2012/2016
  • Excellent working knowledge of windows 7/8/10
  • Excellent working knowledge of Office 2003/2010/2013/2016/365
  • Exchange server 2003/2007/2010/2013/2016/365 implementation experience
  • Excellent working knowledge of major networking components, networking operating systems and basic configuration and maintenance
  • Backup configuration and maintenance experience
  • Hands on knowledge of the procedures used in the installation, modification, maintenance and repair of IT hardware and software
  • Experience of managing daily system checks, servers, backups and firewalls
  • Escalation point for incident resolution

Working conditions

The typical working environment will be office locations either at GBEConverge offices or customer offices. However, there will be times when you will be expected to work at building sites, dock yards, retail shops, outdoor sites and care facilities. Construction site certification, enhanced DBS checks, PCN checks and NSSA checks will be reviewed on a regular basis (6-month period)

The role requires that Project Consultants will be available to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays on request. Project Consultants are expected to be available for an on-call rota to support customers with out of hours’ support contracts as defined by the Technical Operations Manager.

KPIs

  1. Ensure 100% of projects have budget and scheduled time reviews post-project.
  2. Ensure 100% of projects have a lessons learned review within 7 days of project completion
  3. On completion of each project complete a post project opportunity report.
  4. Ensure that project timesheet recording does not fall below 100%
  5. All tickets, Job Sheets or Project work to be documented and paperwork completed within 24hrs (1 day) of completion for minor projects, 48 hours for major projects
  6. Maintain the GBE Converge knowledgebase to ensure technical details are recorded and accurate
  7. Prepare your Personal Development Plan before every review meeting

Physical requirements

The job requires that the engineer is able to lift and move typical IT equipment (PC’s and Laptops) from floor to desk regularly. Long periods of working in front of a VDU with regular breaks is common. Occasionally you may be required to travel long journeys to complete customer support, installation or project tasks.
