70 St Mary Axe, London

70 St Mary Axe is a distinctive new 24-storey, 300,000 sq ft office development located in the heart of the City of London. The scheme, designed by Foggo Associates, provides efficient, flexible modern office space organised around a central core, and incorporates retail accommodation and public realm enhancements at ground level. Low energy measures such as borehole thermal energy storage and energy piles, result in a design with very low carbon emissions. Due to its striking curved profile the building has gained itself the nickname in the press as ‘The Can of Ham’.

GBE Converge were appointed by Main Contractor Mace MEP to carry out the full design development, supply, installation and commissioning of all Fire, Life Safety, Security and ICT systems to the project. GBE Converge worked with partners AMAG, Gent and Baldwin Boxall.

After the completion of installation and commissioning, GBE Converge were awarded the Maintenance Support contract for all the systems by JLL and Integral. This includes support for the AMAG Symmetry Security Management System, Gent Fire Alarm and Life Safety system and the Data Network Systems.

GBE Converge are also involved with tenant fit-out works within the building.

GBE Converge Managing Director Jason Buttle commented, “70 St Mary Axe is a great example of how we can deliver a genuine end-to-end service. Our detailed knowledge of the systems, having designed and installed them to an excellent standard, and our existing relationships with the management team, makes us the obvious partner for on-going support.”
