Ben Allen on Why He's Proud to be Part of GBE Converge

"I’m always pleased to resolve situations for clients under my own initiative and hand over an installation that I can step back from and feel proud of"

How did you get into what you do?

When I was 26, I decided I wanted a career change. I was looking for something both technical and practical so I was delighted when selected for an electrical apprenticeship at a local security installer.

What has been your favourite piece of work at GBE Converge?

Prima Dental in Gloucester. This was my first installation of air samplers, which none of my previous employers dealt with. A little daunting at first but I enjoyed the challenge of learning something new and the project proved to be a real success.

How has your career at GBE Converge developed?

I have received excellent training and the opportunity to work with market leading products, such as Gent fire alarms and AMAG access control systems. Continually expanding my knowledge keeps my work interesting, these products were all new to me.

Are there any key projects you are working on currently?

I am the Lead Installation Engineer for the Tata Steel Security Support and Maintenance Contract at their Port Talbot and Llanwern sites in South Wales. This is a large site with a complex structure of security, so it’s a great opportunity to utilise my technical skills.

What might someone be surprised to know about you?

Despite a fairly severe physical setback, I’ve managed to climb some of the highest peaks in the alps.

What do you enjoy most about your role at GBE Converge?

In short…..I like making stuff work!

What attracted you to working at GBE Converge?

I’ve always preferred working on commercial and industrial installations, rather than small domestic ones. GBE Converge have a vast portfolio of clients covering many different functions and industries – so it’s the ideal company for me.

What is your proudest achievement at GBE Converge?

It’s hard to pinpoint anything in particular, as I really do enjoy my job. However, I’m always pleased to resolve situations for clients under my own initiative and hand over an installation that I can step back from and feel proud of.
